Day 17 : An Ugly Fish is A Beautiful Model
This fish, in my opinion is U-G-L-Y. However, it sure doesn't feel that way. Ugly here, posed wonderfully for Rob and I at Mr. Aquarium. Last week I asked for permission to photograph one of their fish since buying one would have been expensive and then I would be left with this fish. More than likely I would have sung it a nice lullaby and put it asleep. Having a dirty fish is a responsibility I don't want. In this shoot alone he crapped all in my vase!
The vase was the actual inspiration for this shoot. For Christmas my sister got me a vase the shape and size of a human head. It's awesome, but as Rob and I also found out, it is extremely difficult to shoot. For one, it's thick glass, and two, it's not your typical smooth clear vase. None-the-less we did get some great shots. I'm going to be posting them to my other blog soon. This was a lot of fun to do.
I like this shot because it has so much action. You can just see the stars in that ugly fish's eyes as it pleads for us to stop popping the flashes and put him back in a tank where he has room to swim.
Day 16 : Lovely Ice
So all of yesterday the internet was out. Here is my post for yesterday and later tonight will be the post for today.
Lubbock trees are interesting. Apparently they can withstand gusts up to 60mph but they can't handle a little bit of ice. All over campus and the city, huge branches covered in ice are now draping the ground. It's crazy! Definitely going to need a clean-up crew the moment the ice melts.
Lubbock is gorgeous when it's covered in snow, before the little gremlins come out and dirty it all up. For this shot, lucky me, I was the first gremlin out at the apartment, so the snow was untouched and perfect for me to shoot on.

Day 15 : Dry Ice and Light
My mother sent me cheesecake for my birthday. Oh my goodness the moment I saw the box it was delivered in my mouth started watering. I LOVE CHEESECAKE!
When companies ship desserts, to keep the cake cold so it doesn't melt during travel, it's packed with dry ice. Now, I don't have much experience playing with dry ice, but I couldn't resist. After burn - freezing my fingers, I dropped a chunk in a wine glass and went to snapping photos. So entertaining. Of course, Justin looked at me like I was nuts, and yes, most of the time I really am.

Day 8 : Jumping Acrobatic Seagulls

Here's a shot from San Diego this past summer. I know, slap my wrist, it's not a photo I've taken today. However, my reasoning is based on the fact that I do not have a computer or technology of my own to edit and post photos whenever I please. I wish I did. Soon, I hope I will. Until then, I'm editing and tagging my photos that have just been sitting around. I'm getting a lot done! I swear.
This was captured only with the assistance of cheese crackers being tossed in the air by my trusted assistant, Justin. I like this photo because of the bird on the ground checking out the other bird's moves as he charges for the cheesy afternoon snack.

Day 7 : Apple?

This weekend, Justin got his samurai sword in the mail. Upon hearing the arrival of the new toy, David brought over a bag of apples and much silliness ensued. After 10 apples were hacked into tiny pieces by the katana, I told David to grab the floor lamp and be my light guy. I threw a black shirt at Jana and told her to put it on. I told Justin to cut me an apple as close to in half as he could. He did and cut his finger in the process.
For the crudeness of the shoot, it was a lot of fun. We used Justin's expertise on the handling of a sharp sword, the white walls of Justin's apartment as a background, and Justin's floor lamp as my spotlight. I busted a light manipulating it around, but overall I was very happy with this shoot. I want to do it again in a studio and get some really tight shots, but for now, I'm left with the memories of tossing apples at Justin, Jana, and David as they wield the katana and dice apples in mid air.
At least the apartment smells nice now.

Day 4 : Characteristicly Green

I like this photo because it posesses a lot. Young, new leaves holding water, shriveled old leaves that had been munched on by bugs behind them, and strong mature leaves at the base supporting the other leaves.

Day 1 : A Walk In The Woods

Today I am starting my 356 Day Project. Yay. Go me! A little behind, I know, but better late than never! This shot I found as I was walking through Village Creek in Arlington, Texas with my baby sister who is also quite passionate in photography.
Sometimes, you can miss so much by walking a trail correctly - with your eyes in front of you. But take a moment to turn around and see where you've been. I never would have seen this shot had I not done so. A change of perspective was all it took.
Day 2 - what will it bring? No idea. But I'm excited to find out.
